Luis Enrique Vargas

Viola

Violist LUIS ENRIQUE VARGAS has been a member of the Euclid Quartet since 2001 and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Viola at Indiana University South Bend. 
 
Born in Venezuela and former member of the internationally renowned “El Sistema” organization of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra working as an active educator, performer, and chamber musician. Back in his homeland he pursued his music studies at the Simon Bolivar Conservatory. He moved to North America in 1997 where he pursued a Chamber Music Diploma at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada under the guidance of the Penderecki String Quartet. Moving to the United States the same year, he continued studies for a Master of Music at Miami University of Ohio and a Performer’s Certificate from Northern Illinois University under the guidance of the Oxford and the Vermeer Quartets. 
 
He is currently a member of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy® Awards organization) and has been an adjudicator for the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Hugo Kauder International Competition, and the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition. As an educator, he has given numerous masterclasses and lectures to young students across the country in viola and chamber music. Other teaching posts include positions at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Colorado and the Lunigiana Music Festival in Italy.
